UDHAMPUR, Nov 28: Financial literacy awareness programme was conducted at village Dhar Gaddian, the village adopted by Dr Jitendra Singh, MoS PMO under PM Aadarsh Gram Yojna.
The programme was conducted by Manohar Lal, DDM, NABARD, Udhampur. The objective of the programme was to generate awareness about financial literacy among the rural masses.
Shamsher Singh, Ex-Chairman, Judiciary Committee and residents of the village Dhar Gaddian attended the programme.
DDM, NABARD said that doubling of income of the farmers by 2022 is the main focus of the Government of India and NABARD is also making all out efforts in this regard. He informed in detail about KCC scheme. They were informed that KCC scheme provides credit to farmers from the bank at 7 per cent per annum and there is a benefit of interest rebate of 3 per cent if the farmers repay the loan in time which makes effective rate of interest at 4 per cent. All the farmers were requested to approach the Department of Agriculture and the banks in this regard. They were also urged to take up dairy farming along with agriculture. They were also encouraged for sheep and goat rearing to supplement their income. They were explained Dairy Entrepreneurship Development Scheme (DEDS) in detail. Similarly, Integrated Development of Small Ruminants Scheme was also explained where subsidy is available at 33 per cent for availing bank loan for rearing of sheep and goats.
DDM educated the participants about financial inclusion and said that all rural households must have a saving account with the banks. He also explained about Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojna Scheme, Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojna and PM Jan Dhan Yojna (PMJDY) to the participants.
He informed the participants that the Government of India has initiated the process of Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) under which most of the subsidies would be given in cash and would be transferred in the bank accounts of the heads of respective families.
