FIR lodged against GDC Principal

SRINAGAR, Dec 28: State Vigilance Organization (SVO) has formally registered an FIR against Principal Government Dental College, Srinagar, Dr. Reyaz Farooq and purchasing committee of the GDC after fraud in the purchase of dental equipment was established.
An official of State Vigilance Organization told Excelsior that the FIR has been lodged following the enquiry that proved the dental equipment has been purchased at rates much higher than those prevalent in the market. The official said that prima facie evidence has proved that the Principal GDC, Srinagar has flouted norms while purchasing the dental equipment from Villa India, New Delhi at higher rates.
“FIR number 33/12 under Section 5 (2) of Prevention of Corruption Act (P.C. Act) Samvat read with 120 B RPC has been registered against Principal Government Dental College, Srinagar, Dr. Reyaz Farooq and the purchase committee that had ordered for the purchase of the dental equipment at exhorbitant rates,” said the official of State Vigilance Organization.
The official said that the FIR has been lodged at Police Station, Vigilance Organization Kashmir (VOK) on December 18, 2012 and further investigations have been taken up. He added the FIR was lodged only after it was proved that a fraud has taken place in the purchase of the dental equipment.
Meanwhile, hospital sources told Excelsior that the sleuths of Vigilance Organization raided the college premises on Thursday and seized some documents pertaining to the purchases made by the college authorities. The sources said that the sleuths were looking for original documents with respect to the purchase of the dental equipment.
