FIR registered against SPO who opened fire on youth

 

SRINAGAR:  Jammu and Kashmir police has registered an FIR against Special Police Officer (SPO) who opened fire on demonstrators at Lethpora on Srinagar-Jammu national highway resulting in death of a youth and injuries to two others last night.

The SPO has been taken into custody, official source said.   They said a guard of Additional Deputy Commissioner, (ADC) Ramban, opened fire on demonstrators who had blocked the highway at Lethpora last night causing injuries to three persons.

The injured were rushed to hospital where one Farooq Ahmad Kuchay was declared dead while another Suhail Ahmad has been admitted to S K Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) in a critical condition.

They said an FIR has been registered and guard has been taken into custody.   People were protesting on the highway alleging that security forces and state police personnel beat up locals, ransacked their houses and also damaged window panes and parked vehicles.

They said protests were going on when the vehicle of ADC, Ramban, passed the area. Later the residents staged night-long protest on the highway alongwith the body of Farooq. (AGENCIES)
