Fire breaks out in several buildings housing Army, no casualty reported

SRINAGAR: Several buildings, housing Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and private shops, were gutted after a major fire broke out at the frontier district of Kupwara’s main town in North Kashmir this afternoon.

Soon after the incident, fire tenders from different parts of the district have been rushed to the area to control the flames. Besides, fire tenders from the Army have also been pressed into service to control the leaping flames, clearly visible from a distance.

Senior civil and police officials have rushed to the spot and are yet to ascertain the cause of fire. They said some of the buildings are housing the Town Commander of 41 RR. There are number of shops in the ground floor of these buildings, they said. (AGENCIES)
