KARGIL, Nov 16: A massive fire broke out in Central Jamia Masjid, at Drass in Kargil district today evening, causing massive damage to it.
Reports said that the fire broke out in the Central Jamia Masjid Sharief, Drass in Kargil district and spread rapidly engulfing whole structure of mosque. Soon after the incident, police, locals and Army personnel rushed to the spot to douse the fire.
They fire tenders were called from Kargil and other areas to put out the fire.
Meanwhile, local people staged protest against the non- availability of fire tenders at Drass.
Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC-Kargil, Feroz Khan expressed shock over the unfortunate fire incident. He castigated the Fire and Emergency Service Department for failing to provide fire tenders even at Sub Divisional level in Kargil district of Ladakh.
“The Fire and Emergency Services Department of Union Territory of Ladakh has failed to protect properties of people in fire incidents. Despite of liberal funding by the Government of India, the LG’s Administration could not provide Fire Service Station at sub divisional level. I request the Lt Governor to establish Fire Brigade Unit at Sub Divisional level in Kargil district,” Khan tweeted.
