Fire damages over 1700 structures, kills 75 in Kashmir in one year

Srinagar, Jan 7: District Srinagar has generated the highest number of fire calls last year even as the highest number of structures were damaged in the district while the highest number of deaths due to fire incidents were reported from district Pulwama during the period.
In total, as per official figures, across Kashmir Division, the Fire & Emergency Department received 2242 fire calls from January to December 2021, during which 75 people lost their lives.
In the fire incidents reported in Kashmir, over 1700 structures have been damaged in one year and the total damage suffered has been recorded as over 70 crore rupees.
As per figures, during the period, 448 fire calls were received from district Srinagar which also included 11 false calls.
In the fire incidents in one year, 5 lives were lost in the district while 12 were injured and over 350 structures were damaged. As per the officials, in Srinagar, the property worth over 26 crore rupees was also damaged.
During the year 2021, Budgam received a total of 179 fire calls, and over 100 structures were damaged in the incidents of the blaze while the property worth 4.5 crore rupees was damaged.
District Anantnag during the period generated 254 fire calls and 177 structures were damaged along with the loss of 2 lives. In the fire incidents in the districts, property worth over 5 crore rupees was also damaged.
As per the details available with Excelsior, from Jan 2021 to December 2021, district Kupwara generated 321 fire calls, 265 structures were damaged and the lives of 5 people were also lost. The property damaged in the fire incidents during the period, as per the details, has been recorded over 6 crore rupees.
Similarly, district Pulwama, during the period, generated 216 fire calls, and 164 structures were damaged, resulting in the loss of 24 lives, which is highest across Kashmir. In the fire incidents, property worth over 8 crore rupees was also damaged.
Further, the district Shopian generated over 100 fire calls during the period and 92 structures were damaged resulting in the loss of 22 lives. During the period, property worth nearly 4 crore rupees was also damaged.
In the same fashion, Ganderbal, during the period, generated 124 fire calls and as a result, 81 structures were damaged causing a loss of over 2 crore rupees. During one year, one life was also lost in the fire incidents in the district.
In Baramulla, the Fire & Emergency Department received 324 fire calls during the period and also recorded the loss of 4 lives. During one year, 263 structures were damaged resulting in a loss of over 6 crore rupees.
Also, in Kulgam, 141 fire calls were generated during the period. The district also reported a loss of 12 lives in the fire incidents and damage to over 100 structures.
The estimated loss of the property during the period in the district has been recorded as over 4 crore rupees.
Lastly, in Bandipora, Fire & Emergency Department received 141 fire calls, during which 107 structures were damaged causing a loss of over Rupees 2 crore.
