Fire Deptt employees demand separate Directorate, warn to go on strike

JAMMU, Nov 29: The employees of Fire Department have decided to go on strike after January 2 under the banner of Jammu Firemen’s Forum if their demand of separate Directorate for Fire and Emergency Services at Jammu with full-fledged control and powers is not fulfilled.
In a statement, Ajay Kumar Gupta, President, Jammu Firemen’s Forum said that Department of Fire and Emergency Services is presently having 176 fire and emergency stations all over the State, out of which 41 fire stations are in Jammu.
Department having overall sanctioned strength of 3581 employees is having just 650 employees from Jammu province including migrant employees who have been adjusted in Jammu province, he said, adding that Jammu employees have to work round the clock while as Kashmir employees are performing duties as per their wish.
He added that Police has been granting pay disparity in Havaldar and ASI cadre whileas Fire Services Department has been ignored and similarly thing is happening in ration allowances also.
It is the prime duty of the Government to establish a separate directorate for Fire and Emergency services at Jammu and fill up the vacancies so that firemen don’t suffer further.
The employees of Fire department have decided to go on strike after January 2 if their genuine demand of separate Directorate for Fire and Emergency Services at Jammu is not fulfilled with full fledged control and powers, Gupta added.
