JAMMU, Apr 24: Wheat crop standing in 20 acres of land was destroyed in two fire incidents in Jammu’s Arnia area on Monday.
Nirbhay Sharma, Tehsildar Suchetgarh, who’s holding the additional charge of Arnia, told the Excelsior, “a fire erupted in two village of Arnia viz. Sohagpur and Kool Khurd this afternoon.”
“Soon after the news of the fire spread”, he said, “fire tenders were rushed to the spot along with teams of revenue and police to contain the flames.”
“After hectic efforts, the fire was finally controlled from further spreading in the fields,” he said, adding that wheat crop spread over an area of 20 acres was lost in the fire, cause of which is yet to be known.
“We’ve constituted a revenue team to assess the losses suffered by the farmers. Accordingly, they’ll be compensated from the SDRF funds,” added the revenue officer.
