JAMMU, Jan 21: In order to create fire safety awareness amongst the students, Fire and Emergency Services Department today conducted fire and evacuation drills in different schools of Jammu province.
The drills were conducted under the guidance of Director General Fire and Emergency Services, Dr G A Bhat.
In Jammu, the drill was conducted in Government Higher Secondary School, Bahu Fort under the supervision of S C Verma, Divisional Fire Officer, Fire and Emergency Services, Sub-Command Gandhi Nagar.
R T Dubey, Joint Director, Fire and Emergency Services, Jammu Range was the chief guest on the occasion while as A K Wangoo, Deputy Director, Fire and Emergency Services, Command Jammu and other officers of the department were also present during the drill.
Different teams of students of school and staff were constituted, who participated in the fire fighting, rescue evacuation, first aid and other drills. About 20 teachers and 200 students participated in the drill.
The Divisional Fire Officer delivered a lecture on fire fighting, evacuation and first aid besides giving tips about handling of LPG and other type of fires.
Similar drills were conducted at NITL Higher Secondary School Udhampur and Government High School Ghair Mari Reasi under the supervision of P K Bhat, Assistant Director, Fire and Emergency Services Command Udhampur/Reasi.
The teams of staff and students were constituted for the drill. The teams include school fire management committee, awareness campaign team, fire alarming team, search and rescue team, first aid team, site safety team, transport and media management teams.
A great enthusiasm was witnessed among the students in conducting the drills in all the educational institutions of Udhampur and Reasi districts.
Likewise, drills were also conducted in Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Rajouri and Government High School Purani Poonch by Command Office Rajouri-Poonch under the supervision of Command Officer R C Raina.
