KATHUA, May 3: One kilometer area of forest in Nanan falling under Sundri Kote Shivalik Range in Kathua district has been engulfed by fire which started from a private land earlier today and spread to forest area later after the residents of the locality could not control the blaze this afternoon.
According to reports the fire has spread in on km area of forests destroyed green trees, bushes, medicinal plants and wild fruits as well. The forest officials rushed to the area but could not control the fire as its intensity was high and it could spread to other areas as well.
Reports however said that fire in Sukhrala and Mahanpur forests has been bought under control. It may be recalled that fire engulfed these two forests two days back damaging huge area. However the loss is yet to be ascertained.
