UDHAMPUR, Dec 30: An electric pole here today caught fire in Chabutra Bazar area of the town.
Locals informed that 20 digital meters were fixed with this electric pole and there was continuous sparking at the pole along with short circuit for the last 2-3 days.
Local shopkeepers claimed that they reported the matter to the concerned power department but none paid any heed.
However, the fire was put off by the Fire Department and none was injured in the incident but property worth lakhs was damaged as the fire spread to a three story building and a Hardware shop adjoining the pole.
A car bearing registration number JK14J-1921 was also damaged in the fire incident.
Locals further claimed that such incidents are not new after the installation of digital meters in the area.
