SRINAGAR, Oct 1: An early morning fire incident today left a trail of destruction, with nearly 17 residential sheds reduced to ashes in the Parimpora area.
As per officials, the incident unfolded around 4:15 am when the Fire & Emergency Services control room received an urgent call, prompting a swift response from fire tenders rushing to the scene.
Upon their arrival, emergency responders were met with a heart-wrenching sight – approximately 17 small wooden residential sheds consumed by flames. “Timely efforts played a crucial role in eventually containing the blaze,” locals said.
Authorities have diligently worked throughout the day to determine the cause of the fire that engulfed the residential sheds. However, by evening, it was announced that the police had taken over the investigation to ascertain the fire’s origin.
Officials have reported that while the blaze spread quickly, there were no casualties. “Except for a few minor injuries to the firemen,” they said.
Though the timely efforts of the Fire and Emergency Department were instrumental in suppressing the blaze, tragically, by the time they gained control, the structures had been reduced to ashes.
“Although no casualties were reported, the financial toll was significant, with property worth lakhs damaged in the blaze,” officials stated, further adding that it took them more than four hours to finally extinguish the flames.
Noor Aalam, the In-charge Divisional Fire Officer (DFO) of the Fire & Emergency Department in Srinagar, confirmed the incident, disclosing that 17 sheds had been gutted in the blaze.
“These sheds were all lined up, contributing to the rapid spread of the fire, exacerbated by morning winds. Additionally, a number of gas cylinders exploded, further fueling the fire,” he told Excelsior.
While he noted that the cause of the fire was still under investigation, he mentioned that a short circuit appeared to be the likely initial reason.
