Fire Safety Week concludes

JAMMU, Apr 20: The Fire Safety Week, which was observed in the memory of the martyrs, who sacrificed their lives while saving the lives and property of the public, concluded today.
During the week the Fire and Emergency Services Department conducted public meetings, seminars in the educational institutions, industries and petrol pumps to make the public aware about steps required to be taken to save the life as well as property from the fire.
On the concluding day today, Inter-school Speech Competition was held at Fire and Emergency Services Headquarters, Gandhi Nagar, on the theme “fire is fire, friend or foe, we decide”. A total of 39 students of different schools of Jammu district participated in the competition.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr G A Bhat, Director General, Fire and Emergency Services, laid stress on fire prevention. He also lauded the role of school children in Fire Safety Awareness Programme.
Koshki Bamba, Class 10th student of New Era Environmental Higher Secondary School, Jain Bazar bagged first prize in the competition while as Harshita Jain, a 10th Class student of the same school and Supriya Uttam, 10th class student of Luthra Academy, Gandhi Nagar bagged second and third prizes respectively.
Two students namely Anshul Sharma (9th class) of Co-operative High School, Amphalla and Hadiyah Khan (9th class) of New Era Environmental Higher Secondary School, Jain Bazar were awarded with consolation prizes. The other participating students were also awarded with consolation prizes.
The cash prizes, trophies and commendation certificates were distributed by Dr G A Bhat, Director General, Fire & Emergency Services, R S Sodhi, Director, Fire & Emergency Services and R K Hak, Joint Director, Fire & Emergency Services.
Different lectures and demonstrations were also held at Fire and Emergency Services Headquarters to aware the general public regarding the fire hazards as well as fire prevention and protection. The team of judges headed by Medical Officer, Fire and Emergency Services, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu Dr Hem Raj, Deputy Director, Fire & Emergency Services, Command Jammu C K Peshin and Accounts Officer Mohd Ayub Sheikh assessed the performance of participants.
Similarly, a function to mark the conclusion of Fire Safety Week was also organized at Command Headquarters Udhampur which was presided over by P K Bhat, Assistant Director, Fire and Emergency Services Command Udhampur/Reasi.
During the week, a number of awareness programmes were organized at Udhampur, Reasi, Katra, Ramnagar and Chenani to create awareness among the general masses about adoption of fire safety measures. These programmes were organized under the supervision of P K Bhat and on the directions of DG and Director.
Similarly, Fire and Emergency Services Command Rajouri and Poonch also organized various programmes during the week under the supervision of Assistant Director R C Raina.
