SRINAGAR, Apr 14: The fire service week kicked off today at the Fire and Emergency Services Headquarters in Batamaloo to pay tribute to the firefighters who have died in the line of duty in Kashmir.
Bashir Ahmad Shah, Joint Director of Fire and Emergency Services Kashmir Range, who presided over the ceremony, told officers and jawans that they should never turn their backs on fire and that they should always be prepared to give their lives to save the lives and property of others, as their service motto is “we serve to save.”
He said the week is being observed to “pay homage to those martyrs” who have sacrificed their precious lives while fighting fires and attending emergencies in the face of great odds. “Two-minute silence was observed as a mark of respect,” he said.
He said that the theme for this year’s fire service week is “Learn fire safety, increase productivity,” and that such events will be held at all district headquarters from April 14 to April 20.
