Srinagar, Feb 27: A fire tender today overturned while it was enroute to a fire site in the Wagoora area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Officials said that the mishap occurred during a crucial response to a blaze that had engulfed a residential house.
According to authorities, the distress call was received at the Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) Station in Kreeri on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday, alerting them to a fire outbreak at the residence of Manzoor Ahmad in Durhama Wagoora.
In swift response, the station dispatched a fire engine to the scene.
However, officials said, amidst challenging conditions exacerbated by slippery roads, the fire engine veered off course upon reaching Kreeri, resulting in an overturn that left five personnel injured.
An official, detailing the injuries, stated, “Among the injured include an LFM (Leading Fireman), three firefighters and the driver.”
The injured were identified as Abdul Hamid Lone (LFM), Mohammad Abdullah (SgCt), Mohammad Ashraf (Mechanical Driver), Showkat Ahmad (Fireman) and Azhar Din (Fireman).
F&ES Department said that despite the setback, efforts persisted to combat the fire. Two separate fire engines were swiftly dispatched to the site, with one unfortunately meeting with the accident en route.
“Thankfully, these men are out of danger, even as the fire has been successfully controlled at the site with minimal damage,” the official reassured.
