JAMMU, Dec 29: Dr Krishan Lal Gupta, the first Director of Health Services from J&K in the erstwhile State of Jammu and Kashmir and a personality par excellence, passed away at the age of 94 years.
Dr Gupta was born on 15th December 1928 at Kotli in District Mirpur (now in Pakistan). After completing his early studies at Kotli and Matriculation from Mirpur under Lahore University, he proceeded to Mumbai where he successfully completed FSC degree. Thereafter, he proceeded to Madhya Pradesh where he completed his MBBS from Gwalior Medical College and finally joined service in the erstwhile State of J&K in 1955. During service period he did his DPH from Calcutta in 1959. He became the first Director of Health Services (from J&K) of erstwhile J&K State and remained at this position from 1978 to 1982. Thereafter he served as Special Secretary Health from 1982 to 1983.
He also rendered his selfless services at multiple institutions including Vivekananda Medical Mission Hospital Ambphalla, Vridh Ashram Ambphalla, SOS Home for Children Channi, Red Cross Society etc.
