First Dogri and Kashmiri film Gul Gulshan Gulfam opens to good public response

JAMMU, Dec 14: The enthusiastic response of public, especially younger generation of cine buffs to the first Dogri and Kashmiri film Gul Gulshan Gulfam has come as shot in the arm of nascent regional cinema in Jammu.
Produced under the banner of JK Motion Pictures, the film premiered in a special show last night, was formally released at two local multiplexes here today.
Mirroring the composite cultural and linguistic legacy of J&K, the film ‘Gul Gulshan Gulfam’, is a story of two childhood friends Gul, a Kashmiri Pandit and Gulfam, a Kashmir Muslim, who gets separated due to turmoil in Valley. In Jammu, Gulshan, the Dogra boy, now is the only college friend of Gul who understands his pain.
The story takes a turn when Gulshan takes initiative to take Gul to the Valley and help him to meet his childhood friend Gulfam. But after lot of efforts both fail to locate Gulfam. The film ends with a happy note with chance meeting of Gulfam who having apparently forgotten his friend Gul is troubled by unforgettable old memories.
The film, a sensitive take on topical issue of forced severance of tender human relations in wake of tragic turmoil, is rooted in local ethos and mirrors the social reality of our times. The film due to its story, local cast and also entirely film shot at different locations in Jammu city and in Kashmir valley, strikes an immediate chord with audience.
Produced by Jawahar Lal Razdan, written and screenplay by Indu Razdan, the film has been directed by Sarfraz Alvi, The cast of ‘Gul Gulshan Gulfam,’ includes Vijay Koul as ‘Gul’, Vikram Sharma, as ‘Gulshan’, Arvin Tikko, as ‘Gulfam’. The main female leads are Seema Rajput, and Bela Thapa, the supporting cast include Nazir Josh, Arjun  Manhas, Nirmala Koul, Vinod Bhushan, Jatinder, Rashid Shehnaz, Shammi Dhamir and Vijay Goswami. The music of the film is composed by Sumesh Vasudevan, lyrics by P N Shad in Kashmiri and Rahul Arma in Dogri.
Talking to Excelsior, group of young cinemagoers after seeing the film said that they are happy to see a film which is based on a local theme. They said to see local actors on screen and speaking in their mother tongues is certainly a novel and exciting experience.
