JAMMU, Oct 14: In a major achievement, the first-ever independent and in-house renal transplant procedure was performed by a team of doctors in Super Speciality Hospital (SSH) Jammu under the guidance of Principal, Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu, Dr Ashutosh Gupta.
The surgical team, led by Dr Elias Sharma (Prof & Head Urology), Dr Rahul Gupta, Dr Ajay Anand, Dr Muzzain Iqbal, Dr Sunil Kumar Bhatt, Dr Yashir Rehman, Dr Chetan Sharma and Dr Yashir Mehmood exhibited extraordinary expertise and dedication in performing this intricate procedure, further solidifying the reputation of SSH Jammu as a leading healthcare institution in the region.
Medical management issues related to evaluation, pre transplant work up, dialysis, cross match and immuno suppression was taken care by Dr Abdul Majeed, Dr Raju Bhandari, Dr Aman Gupta, Dr Anuradha, Dr Danish, Dr Priyanka and Dr Sahil from Nephrology team of SSH, who had been managing and following the patient for more than 6 months.
This patient, a 36-year-old male, had been suffering from end-stage renal disease and had been on waiting list for a kidney transplant has now been given a new lease on life and is on the road to recovery with a creatinine of 0.9 mg/dl at the time of discharge.
The silent force behind the scene before, during, and after surgery was provided by a team of Anaesthesiologists comprising of Dr Smriti Gupta (Professor), Dr Ashwani Kumar (Professor), Dr Anjali Mehta (Associate Professor), Dr Amit Manhas (Associate Professor) and Dr Neha Dang (Assistant Professor).
Pertinent to mention here that 18 successful renal transplants have been performed in Super Speciality Hospital (SSH) Jammu till date but all these transplants were done by a team of doctors from SSH Jammu under the supervision of Dr S Raina from Jaslok Hospital, Mumbai.
