LEH, Oct 29: Jaipur Literature Festival is the most renowned Lit Fest in India but having organised Ladakh Literature Festival holds great significance for both Leh and Kargil districts in UT Ladakh as the festival has provided the much needed platform to revive, strengthen and promote rich heritage of Ladakhi culture, history, art and language.
This was stated by CEC, LAHDC, Leh Gyal P Wangyal, who was chief guest on the opening ceremony of first ever Ladakh Literature Festival held at Khatok Chenmo, Leh Palace.
Addressing the gathering, CEC said that the LLF will help highlight the unique cultural heritage of Ladakh and stressed on the need to continue it as an annual event at a larger scale.
Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, MP, Ladakh speaking as the guest of honour on the occasion said that LLF’19 is an inspiration to ensure a holistic development in Ladakh including development of peoples’ outlook, worldly knowledge and wisdom besides external or material development.
Guest of honour, C Phuntsog, Vice Chancellor, University of Ladakh said that such festival will help take civilization, culture and society forward and expressed his best wishes to continue it in future.
Divisional Commissioner Ladakh, Saugat Biswas citing Ladakh Literature Festival as the highest Literature Festival in the world said that the idea behind holding this festival is to open culture, tradition, history and society to the literary world and to foster the spirit of exploration of various cultures and its appreciation within Ladakh.
As many as some 500 participants on the day one opening and following sessions speaks of the success for the first edition of LLF, 2019. There are about 100 speakers and panelists representing from all over Ladakh to share the richness of the language and cultural diversity. Almost over 50 prominent speakers from all over the country participated in the festival. Involvement of students from across the schools in Ladakh has been ensured in LLF by the organizers.
Parvez Dewan’s talk on the History of the Ladakh region was attended by huge gathering of people including bureaucrats, writers, scholars, lecturers, teachers and students at Hotel Grand Dragon.
On the occasion, General Thupstan Paldan gave a talk on “Leh Palace witnessing change”, poem recitation by Kacho Asfyander Khan and Prof Jamyang Gyaltsen, prominent scholars from Kargil and Leh, a talk on Leh Palace by Dr Nawang Tsering, Former Principal, CIBS and Stanzin Lhadol, LAMO gave an introduction of LLF, 2019. A book titled “Leh Khar Gis Khang Zigs” authored by Gen Thupstan Paldan was also released on the occasion.
Eminent artists of J&K KK Gandhi created on the spot a big size painting during the inaugural function of the festival.
A cultural performance was also presented by Fusion Music, Shreen Fatima, Balti Singer, live performance by Art of Motion on Queen Nilza Wangmo song and Khatok Chenmo folk dance performed by chief guests, guest of honours and all other dignitaries present on the occasion.
