This ground-breaking move, the first of its kind in north Kashmir, will operate once a week, with a focus on addressing ailments other than gynaecology and obstetrics.
Dr. Ruby Reshi, the Principal of GMC Baramulla, announced that the ‘Female Health Clinic’ would be open every Wednesday, offering comprehensive care provided by a dedicated team of doctors, including a gynaecologist, surgeon, and pathologist.
The clinic’s mission, she said, is to address various female health issues, excluding pregnancy and antenatal check-ups.
Dr. Reshi stated, “We have already initiated a full-week super-specialty clinic, with five days dedicated to various specialties like Urology, Gastroenterology and others. On Wednesdays, we are committed to serving female patients, providing them with treatment for other ailments, especially those they may not feel comfortable discussing with others.”
In addition to its primary objectives, the clinic aims to promote female health screening, particularly for anemia, as part of the ‘Anaemia Mukt Bharat’ initiative. The goal, she said, is to diagnose and treat anemia promptly and identify its underlying causes.
Officials emphasized that this service is the first of its kind and complements routine outpatient departments (OPDs), addressing the specific healthcare needs of female patients effectively.
Furthermore, the dedicated ‘Female Health Clinic’ also seeks to address breast-related issues promptly. Dr. Reshi encouraged women to come forward if they suspect any breast-related problems, as the clinic is equipped with a team of pathologists, surgeons, and gynecologists.
“On-site Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology (FNAC) tests are available, ensuring swift and tailored treatment for breast-related concerns,” she said.
Dr. Humaira Noor, Associate Professor in the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics, stressed the importance of a team-based approach to addressing female health issues that women may find difficult to discuss with male doctors.
She expressed the hospital’s commitment to providing comfortable and easily accessible healthcare services to women in the northern part of Kashmir.
