First ‘Majalta Half Marathon & Rally’ organized against drug abuse

UDHAMPUR, Jan 11: Concerned over the increasing drug abuse, National Model Academy Kail Pardai organised first ‘Majalta Half Marathon & Rally’, in collaboration with ICDS Majalta, against drug menace, here today.
The Marathon commenced from National Model Academy School Ground and reached Dheema from where it returned back to starting point. The theme of half-marathon was “Drug-Free Majalta”.
The Half Marathon and the rally was flagged off by DIG Udhampur Reasi Range, Sujit K Singh. Jagdish Raj Sharma, Chairman NMA; Nand Kishor Sharma, Ex vice chairman JCCB; SDPO Ramnagar G R Bhardwaj; CDPO Majalta, Anu Radha Sharma; SHO Majalta Vijay Thakur; Dr Neeraj Kesar & Puja Balgotra Kesar, Administrator officer NMA, MD Nirmal Kesar and Principal Raj Rani Sambyal were also present on the occasion.
About 600 boys and girls as well as 100 Anganwadi Workers and Helpers participated in the Marathon. Participating students were holding the banners displaying anti drug slogans. A threadbare discussion on drugs abuse was held in which students were informed about the early symptoms that a drug addict develops and timely check on the same.
Sujit Kumar Singh sensitized the students about ill effects of the drug menace. He motivated students to be ambassador of war against drugs menace in the society. He also appreciated the efforts of the school authorities for organizing free coaching for the students of poor background.
Speaking on the occasion, Administration Officer NMA, Dr Neeraj Kesar appealed all the youth and civil societies to come along to make Majalta drug free.
Nirmal Kesar, Naib Sarpanch Kail & State Youth convener AJKPC, demanded sports tournaments and free physical training to youth from Police Department so that youngsters remain busy.
Later, organisers felicitated first three winners of the Marathon with cash prize. First ranking Parveen Singh from Muala Balpur and Ashu Devi from Nakki, studying in Govt College Ramkot, were awarded with Rs 2000 each while second ranking Manjeet Singh from Pathwar and Parveen Akhter from Dhamma were awarded with Rs 1000 each. Third ranking Aman Kumar from Sail and Shamina Begum from Dhamma were given cash prize of Rs 500 each. Gold medal to first 10 position holder , silver medal to second 10 and 10 bronze medal to third position holders were also awarded.
