Srinagar, Jan 5: A Kashmir-based Bollywood film is being filmed for the first time on the shores of Asia’s largest freshwater lake, Wullar Lake, in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district after the new film policy was formulated in Jammu and Kashmir.
While the locals are excited about the initiative because they think it will bring attention to their area, the film crews are spellbound by the breath-taking view of the lake.
The locals crowded around the film crew as soon as they started setting up at one of the sites on the banks of Wullar Lake because this was the first time they had ever seen a movie being filmed there. The film crew also enjoyed the enthusiasm of the people and was moved by their amiable demeanor.
The film’s director, Aditya Suhas Jambhale, expressed his astonishment at the lake’s beauty and joy at being the first to use it in a work of art. “The environment is extremely good. Our movie is Kashmir based and takes place in Baramulla. One of the settings is the Wullar Lake, and I wonder why no movies have been filmed here,” he said.
He said that the locals are welcoming and helpful, urging more filmmakers to come and explore the region. “People assisted us in numerous ways while being completely unbothered. They were quite cordial,” he said.
The decision to use this site for the movie pleased the locals since they think it will draw attention to the region and inspire more filmmakers. The first live footage of a movie being made and an actor performing was also shown to the locals.
“We are excited since this is the first time we have seen a film team here. This will put some spotlight on our neighborhood, and more filmmakers will visit this area,” a local said.
