Five bovine animals rescued, 2 smugglers arrested

KATHUA, Mar 17: The officials of Toll Post Lakhanpur and Lakhanpur Police foiled the bovine smuggling bid late last night and rescued five animals which were being smuggled into the State in two passenger vehicles.
The vehicles carrying bovine animals entered the State via Lakhanpur. They were bearing registration numbers JK02AG-5947 and JK11A-0502. They on their entry into the State were intercepted by the alert Guard of Excise Sanjeev Kumar at car Jeep Counter and on his instance Excise team, the CRPF and the police jawans did not allow the vehicles to move and arrested the two drivers.
The police said that this case brought to notice the new modus operandi being adopted by bovine smugglers of smuggling the bovine animals in passenger vehicles after their attempt of smuggling bovines in commercial vehicles was thwarted by the Excise Department and police.
The operation was conducted by the joint team headed by Excise & Taxation officers Virender Gupta, Sourabh Sharma, Sheraj Ahmed, Showkat Mattoo, SHO PS Lakhanpur, Kulbir Choudhary along with other team of excise sleuths.
