*Relief of Rs 30,000 to NoKs of deceased, Rs 25,000 to injured announced

JAMMU, Dec 14: In a terrible accident, five people, including four women mourners, were killed and two others injured when a private passenger vehicle veered off the road and plunged into a deep gorge near Ganote area of Kastigarh in mountainous district Doda here today.
The vehicle carrying mourners were returning after attending the last rites of Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Jammu and Kashmir Police Ghulam Hassan who along with two colleagues was martyred in a terrorist attack in Zewan area of Srinagar yesterday evening.
The ill-fated Tempo Traveller bearing registration number JK06-2675 was on its way to Topneel area from Chuchater in District Doda when it plunged into deep gorge on a link road near Ganote area of Kastigarh in district Doda today evening, resulting into on the spot death of four women and injuries to three others. On getting information, police team rushed to the spot and started rescue operation with the help of locals.
Deputy Commissioner Ramban Mussarat Islam and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ramban PD Nitya, who were heading back to Ramban Headquarters after paying tribute to cop, who attained martyrdom in terrorists attack in Zewan area of Srinagar yesterday, also rushed to the spot and supervised the rescue operation.
All the injured persons were rushed to Primary Health Centre (PHC) Rajgarh, where one more succumbed thereby raising the death toll to 5, while two injured were later referred to District Hospital Ramban for specialised treatment. The condition of injured persons admitted in District Hospital was stated to be critical, when last reports came in.
The deceased women were relatives of ASI Ghulam Hassan and were returning to their Topneel village of Doda district after attending his last rites which were performed with state honours at his Chachater area of District Ramban.
The deceased were identified as Rahida Bano, wife of Mushtaq Ahmed, Rubeena Begum, wife of Javeed Ahmed, Amna Begum, wife of Abdul Rehman, Asia Bano, daughter of Mohammad Ibrahim and Sajjad Ahmad (driver), son of Abdul Hamid, all residents of Topneel area of district Doda. The bodies of the deceased were kept in PHC Rajgarh for autopsy, which will be conducted tomorrow.
The injured were identified as Mohammad Yaseen, son of Mohammad Mushtaq and Khalid, son of Mohammad Iqbal, both residents of District Doda.
ASI Ghulam Hassan, constables Shafeeq Ali and Rameez Ahmad of 9th Battalion, Jammu and Kashmir Armed Police, were killed when terrorists attacked their bus in the Zewan area near Pantha Chowk on the outskirts of Srinagar.
According to the injured, the ill-fated vehicle was being driven rashly and negligently as such it met with the accident.
However, police sources claimed that only investigation will reveal whether the vehicle was being driven rashly and negligently.
A case under relevant Sections has been registered at Police Station Doda and investigation started.
Meanwhile, MoS PMO Dr Jitendra Singh spoke to DC Ramban Mussarat Islam after learning about the tragic accident.
“Spoke to DC Ramban, Mussarat Islam after learning about tragic road accident this evening where 5 persons lost their lives. Injured shifted to Hospital. Following up the developments and further assistance, including financial, to be provided as per requirement”, Dr Jitendra Singh tweeted.
Lieutenant Governor of Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Singh tweeted: “Deeply anguished to learn about the loss of lives in a tragic road accident in Ramban. My deepest condolences to the bereaved families. Praying for the early recovery of the injured. I’m monitoring the situation and every possible assistance will be extended to the kin of the victims. Directed the District Administration to provide immediate relief to NoKs of deceased”.
However, Deputy Commissioner Ramban Mussarat Islam has announced relief of Rs 30,000 to NoKs of deceased and Rs 25,000 to injured.
