3 children among casualties

SRINAGAR, Jan 5: In a tragic incident, a couple and their three children died due to asphyxiation here today.
The incident occurred at Pandrathan area of Srinagar, where five members of a family died tragically due to asphyxiation.

The family was living in a rented accommodation in Sheikh Mohalla Pandrathan area of Srinagar and died after falling unconscious due to asphyxiation.
The family originally hailed from Gingal Uri area of Baramulla district.
A police official said that they found the family in unconscious state inside the rented accommodation and recovered a electric blower from the room.
They were shifted to the hospital, where doctors declared them brought dead.
The head of the family has been identified as Aijaz Ahmad Bhat of Gingal Uri.
The house owner Mukhtar Ahmad said that Bhat was Chef in a five star hotel in Srinagar and was living in the accommodation for last 3 months.
He said that he received call from Bhat’s mother saying that his son was not responding to phone calls.
The house owner said that he asked his another tenet, Maqsood Ahmad, to inform Bhat to respond to his mother’s call. He said that Maqsood found the family in unconscious state and later they informed police.
A case has been registered and an investigation taken up.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has expressed grief over the loss of lives due to the tragic incident in Pandrethan area of Srinagar.
In a condolence message, the Lieutenant Governor said: “Saddened by the loss of precious lives in a tragic incident in Srinagar. My deepest condolences to the bereaved family in this hour of grief”.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has also expressed profound grief and sorrow over the tragic death of the family.
He conveyed his deepest condolences to the bereaved relatives, praying for strength and patience to help them cope with this irreparable loss.
While praying for the departed souls, Omar urged people to exercise utmost caution while using heating gadgets during the harsh winter months.
He emphasized the importance of adhering to Government-issued advisories on the safe use of heating equipment to prevent such tragic incidents.
