Fix 27%, not 12% quota for OBCs in J&K: AIBCU

JAMMU, Feb 24: All India Backward Classes Union (AIBCU) has urged the Government to provide 27% reservation to the OBC category people and not 12% in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir.
A spokesman of the Union said that as per the news published in newspapers the reservation percentage for OBCs is being finalised soon. The SEBC Commission in JKUT has been given further extension of six months for the inclusion of more castes and areas.
He said the area reservation does not exist anywhere in the country then why Govt is focusing on the RBA. This area reservation is illegal and govt must shun this past practice started by National Conference. To continue with the area reservation means, the agenda of BJP is not different than those of `Gupkar Group’.
It has also been mentioned about percentage of reservation for OBCs which could be tentatively 12% to 14%. When OBCs reservation has already been fixed by the Supreme Court of India in its decision of 1992 on Mandal Report, then how could the Department of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs interfere in the decision of the Apex Court.
So far as reservation quota is concerned, reservation@27% for OBCs is a settled matter and nobody is allowed to interfere into this matter. Till date there is no caste based census and Union Govt is opposing it time and again then the census of 1931 is the only base prevailing in the country, then mentioning of 12% to 14% reservation for OBCs has no logic.
Further extension of six months granted to the Commission is self explanatory about the working style of the commission. Working on areas inclusion is now no job of the Commission. More and more inclusion of castes in OBC categories is a deliberate attempt to dilute the OBC quota, he alleged.
The spokesman appealed to the Govt not to waste the time of JK OBCs and implement 27% quota for them without any further delay.
