POONCH, June 24: After rainfall and flash flood in a local Nallah, water entered in some residential houses and shops as well at Surankote main town in Poonch district today. The locals expressed resentment against administration for not removing illegal construction on nallah there.
Locals said that there was rainfall for some time which caused flash flood in the Nallah and drains were also over flooded in the town near Sub District Hospital, Surankote, Grameen Bank and few other places, The flash flood water entered some houses, shops and created inconvenience to people.
Staging protest and expressing anger and raising question against the administration, the people said that why administration is not removing the illegal construction on the nallah here, though some have themselves removed their constructions after the past incident. They urged administration to take necessary steps to save the lives and properties of the people.
Pertinent to mention that here was massive flash flood in Surankote town one year back in which public property worth crores was damaged, Meanwhile Police following civil administration visited the area to check the situation.
SDM Surankote, Rizwan Qureshi when contacted said that administration and some people themselves have removed many encroachments on the nallah. But sufficient funds are required to remove the construction and its debris of remaining encroachment which has been already projected before Government, while much blockade was earlier removed and the remaining is still being removed.
“As per the direction of Deputy Commissioner, Poonch, assistance shall be provided to the families affected today under SDRF”.
