JAMMU/SRINAGAR, Aug 17: Heavy rains triggered flash floods in Kashmir ‘s Pulwama and Ganderbal districts this morning while five domestic animals were killed when a Kutcha house collapsed due to downpour in Surankote area of Poonch.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has predicted the possibility of intense showers for a brief period and heavy rainfall in Jammu division that may lead to flash floods, landslides, mudslides and shooting stones over vulnerable places of J&K during the next three days.
Heavy rains lashed Kashmir this morning and it was raining intermittently throughout the day today. As per MeT office, Srinagar recorded a rainfall of 8.8 mm from 08:30 this morning to 05:30 in the evening.
Qazigund recorded a precipitation of just 1.2 mm while Pahalgam recorded 6.2mm during the period. Kupwara, Kokernag and Gulmarg recorded a precipitation of 1.3mm, 1.4mm and 2.2mm respectively.
Flood-like situation was witnessed in Kellar area of South Kashmir after the cloudburst occurred at Chowgam Kellar area. The cloudburst led to the flood-like situation as the muddy water entered into several residential houses.
Officials said that a cloudburst, possibly in a nearby forest area, triggered flash floods at Achgoza area of Rajpora Tehsil in Pulwama district.
In Poonch, five animals were killed when a Kutcha house collapsed due to downpour in Fazalabad area of Surankote.
Reports said that there was heavy rainfall last night in Surankote, due to which the Kutcha house of Mohd Shafi, son of Abdullah collapsed in Nad Batair area of Fazalabad in Surankote Tehsil, resulting into death of two horses, two oxen and one cow.
Meanwhile, below normal temperature was recorded across Jammu and Kashmir. Srinagar recorded a maximum of 23.3 Degree Celsius which is 6.1 Degree Celsius below normal while Jammu recorded 31.2 Degree Celsius, which is 1.6 Degree Celsius below normal. Katra and Batoe also recorded 1.2 Degree Celsius below normal temperature while Bhaderwah had 2.2 Degree Celsius below normal temperature.
Qazigund recorded a maximum of 23.6 Degree Celsius which is 3.9 Degree Celsius below normal. Pahalgam recorded a maximum of 20.4 Degree Celsius which is 4.8 Degree Celsius below normal. Kupwara recorded a maximum of 24.0 Degree Celsius which is 9.0 Degree Celsius below normal. Kokernag recorded a maximum of 22.7 Degree Celsius which is 4.4 Degree Celsius below normal. Gulmarg recorded a maximum of 16.0 Degree Celsius which is 8.0 Degree Celsius below normal.
The weatherman has forecast the possibility of a brief spell of rain and thundershower at a few places during day time and light to moderate rain and thundershower at many places of J&K towards late night or early morning during the next three days till August 20.
Director Meteorological Department (MeT), Dr Mukhtar Ahmad said that there is a possibility of a brief spell of rain and thundershowers at a few places during day time & light to moderate rain and thundershowers at isolated places of J&K towards late night or early morning from August 21 to 23.
MeT has predicted that there was also a possibility of intense showers for a brief period and heavy rainfall in Jammu division which may lead to flash floods, trigger landslides or mudslides and shooting stones over vulnerable places of J&K during next three days.
Despite bad weather, traffic plied from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. Due to mudslide at Dalwas, Ramban, traffic was managed in regulated manner.
