Flights resume from Srinagar

Srinagar, Nov 25: After remaining disrupted for eight days due to poor visibility, the flight operations at Srinagar Airport resumed today bringing cheer to the stranded passengers while temperatures across Kashmir plummeted further.
The flight operations that remained disrupted for last 8 days at Srinagar airport, resumed today with the operation of 12 flights. The flights of Air India, Jet Airways, GOAir, SpiceJet and Vistara operated normally while Indigo operated one flight only instead of six.
Meanwhile, the temperatures across Kashmir division went down but the mercury stayed above the freezing point at most places today.
A  Meteorological Department official said here that Srinagar recorded the minimum temperature of 1.5 degrees Celsius, slightly down from the previous night’s 1.8 degree Celsius.
He said Kupwara, in north Kashmir, registered the low of minus 1.2 degree Celsius, down by over three degrees from the previous night’s 2.4 degree Celsius.
The minimum in Kokernag town in South settled at 3.8 degrees Celsius, while Qazigund, the gateway town to Kashmir Valley recorded the low of 1.6 degrees Celsius.
Gulmarg in north Kashmir registered the low of 1.0 degrees Celsius, same as the previous night, he said, adding the minimum in hill resort of Pahalgam in south Kashmir also went down to settle at 0.6 degrees Celsius.
The night temperature in the Leh town, in Ladakh region, went down by over four degrees to settle at the low of minus 4.0 degree Celsius against the previous night’s 0.3 degrees Celsius. Leh was the coldest recorded place in the State.
The night’s lowest temperature was 10.6 degree in Jammu city while it was 13.8 in Katra, 9.4 in Batote, 5.2 in Banihal and 5.4 in Bhaderwah.
Srinagar recorded maximum day temperature of 11.9 degree Celsius while normal day temperature for this time off the year is 14 degree Celsius, Qazigund recorded 16.1 degree Celsius, Pahalgam 11.8 degree Celsius, Kupwara 13.2 degree Celsius, Kokernag 15.3 degree Celsius, Gulmarg 8 degree Celsius and Leh 8 degree Celsius.
The day temperatures in Jammu city was recorded at 26.7 degree Celsius, while it was 23.4 degree Celsius in Katra town, 20.7 degree Celsius in Batote, 22.3 degree Celsius in Banihal and 20.3 degree Celsius in Bhaderwah town.
The MeT has forecast light rain or snow at isolated places over the State during the next two days.
