Flood alert in Baramulla, one dead

Srinagar, May 27: Authorities today sounded a flood alert in Baramulla after heavy rains lashed Kashmir since yesterday inundating several villages and schools in the district were closed for the safety of school children as majority of the streams are swollen.
One person died today at Nambla Uri in North Kashmir when he was hit slide triggered by a cloud burst. Police said that Mir Zaman Mangriyal, 45, son of Sheer Zaman died on the spot due to cloud burst.
The Deputy Commissioner Baramulla G A Khwaja said that the water canal developed cracks due to cloud burst resulting waterlogging of a least 10 villages including Hanji Veera, Trikolbal, Hadipora and Pathan Mohallah in Pattan area.
“We have pressed men and machinery into service for dewatering these areas,” he said.
