JAMMU, Feb 26: Apsara Road Traders’ Association (ARTA) paid floral tributes to Sher-I-Duggar, Lala Hansraj on his death anniversary, here today.
While paying tribute to Lala Hansraj, Rajan Gupta, general secretary of the Association said that the real tribute to Sher-I-Duggar, Lala Hansraj would be to dedicate a road, a bridge or any other landmark on his name and he sought the Jammu Municipal Corporation to keep the name of the Dogra doyen alive for upcoming generations by dedicating the name of a road, a bridge or other landmark on his name.
The event began with the garlanding of the portrait of Lala Hansraj Mahajan, who was also the founder of the Mahajan Sabha Jammu, Dogra Sadar Sabha and Akhil Bharatiya Mahajan Shiromani Sabha.
Rajan Gupta termed Lala ji as a great social reformer of his time and a catalyst for social change who launched a crusade against social evils like child marriage and Sati. “He also launched a movement for wearing Khadi, promoting brotherhood among various communities and for widow remarriage,” Rajan Gupta said and added that Lala Hansraj also advised the people to avoid extravagant and showy expenditure on social functions.
He further said that a pioneer in the field of social reforms, Lala Ji was an institution within himself. For him, social service was Parmodharma. He was held in very high esteem and reverence by all sections of the society. He was a true Karamyogi who lived his life according to the highest moral values.
Speaking on the occasion, ARTA president Anil Kohli said, “He was a man of principles and was instrumental in setting up Ved Mandir Ashram, Rajput Sabha etc. Throughout his life Lalaji worked for the welfare of all communities irrespective of their caste, creed, religion and region.
Among others, chairman of the Association Ashu Gupta and convener Amit Jandyal were also present along with Pawan Gupta, Ashwani Sharma, Ashutosh Gupta, Manoj Magotra and Rakesh Gupta.
