Focus on relief, rehabilitation: DyCM to administration

JAMMU, Sept 7: To review the damage done and oversee the measures undertaken by the administration in wake of worsening flood situation due to incessant rains in the area, Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand took an extensive tour of Pargwal and adjoining areas.
Tara Chand along with a team of senior officers and engineers rushed to the affected areas and had a first hand inspection of the prevailing situation.
Deputy Commissioner, Jammu Ajit Kumar Sahu, DIG Shakeel Ahmed Beigh, SSP, Jammu, SDM, Khour, Senior engineers and officers from revenue, block development, flood control, PHE and other concerned departments accompanied the tour.
“Now that weather is showing signs of improvement the efforts should be reinforced to reach the inaccessible areas besides focusing on relief and rehabilitation,” he enjoined.
The Deputy Chief Minister visited N.S. Pura, Pargwal, Brahmana-de-kothe, Sajwal, Kulley Megha, Chib-de- Kohte, Gurha Manhasan, Danpur, Hamirpur Kona and other low lying areas. At these places rain has caused damage to agriculture land, houses and other civil structures.
Tara Chand inquired about the prevailing situation at different locations and assured all required help by the administration. He directed the Deputy Commissioner to depute officers for round the clock availability to provide relief to those affected by the calamity.
He said Army, Air-Force, Civil Administration, SDRF and NDRF teams are working to extend maximum possible help to those who have been affected by the recent rainfall and flash floods.
“Certain villages of the area have been worst hit by the calamity and the Government will leave no stone unturned to reach out to them and ensure proper rehabilitation to those affected,” he added. He directed the CAPD authorities to ensure free ration supply to the affected families.
Instructions were issued to the flood control engineers for remaining vigilant about the situation and be present at the site round the clock. He said authorities should ensure that all works are done on high priority so that damages are restricted to the minimum and people do not suffer due to non availability of required men and machinery.
The Deputy Chief Minister directed the concerned to restore power supply to the affected areas and where ever required alternate arrangements be put in place for carrying out the rescue and relief operations.
