SRINAGAR, Nov 22: The flight operations at Srinagar Airport were hit by poor visibility for sixth consecutive day today, forcing the Airport Authority of India to cancel all the flights.
A senior official told Excelsior that due to poor visibility no flight landed or took off from Srinagar Airport today. He said that all 17 flights at Srinagar airport were cancelled today due to poor visibility.
The official said that the visibility at Srinagar Airport was below 800 metres while for flight landing over 1300 metre visibility is required.
This is for the sixth consecutive day that the air traffic was disrupted at Srinagar airport. On Thursday around a dozen afternoon flights were cancelled due to poor visibility, on Friday no flight landed at Srinagar airport, on Saturday only two flights managed to operate and on Sunday and Monday all the flights were cancelled.
The fog and cloud cover led to dip in the day temperatures across Kashmir while night temperatures were above zero degree Celsius at most of the places.
A Meteorological Department official said that Srinagar recorded 11.6 degree Celsius while normal day temperature for this time of the year is 14 degree Celsius, Qazigund recorded 13.7 degree Celsius, Pahalgam 10.8 degree Celsius, Kupwara 13.9 degree Celsius, Kokernag 13.2 degree Celsius, Gulmarg 7.4 degree Celsius, Leh 11 degree Celsius and Kargil 10. 4 degree Celsius.
The minimum temperature in Srinagar dropped by nearly two degrees from the previous night’s low of 2.8 degree Celsius to settle at 1.9 degree Celsius.
He said Qazigund, Kokernag and Pahalgam were the other places in the Valley where the night temperatures stayed above the freezing point. While Kokernag town in south Kashmir registered a low of 2.5 degree Celsius, Qazigund recorded a low of 1.2 degree Celsius and Pahalgam 0.2 degree Celsius.
The minimum night temperature of Kupwara settled at 0.8 degree Celsius and Gulmarg recorded 2.0 degree Celsius.
The night temperature in Leh town in Ladakh region settled at a low of minus 4.1 degree Celsius. The nearby Kargil town recorded the minimum of minus 2.7 degree Celsius.
The night temperature at Jammu city was recorded at 12. 7 degree Celsius while it was 13.4 degree Celsius in Katra town, 9.5 degree Celsius in Batote, 4.0 degree Celsius in Banihal and 5.9 degree Celsius in Bhaderwah town.
The day temperature in Jammu city was recorded at 27.2 degree Celsius, while it was 22.9 degree Celsius in Katra town, 20 degree Celsius in Batote, 23 degree Celsius in Banihal and 20 degree Celsius in Bhaderwah town.
The Meteorological Department has forecast rain and snow at isolated places in the upper reaches of the State for the next 24 hours.
A man was critically injured after a shooting stone hit him at Zojila Pass on Srinagar-Leh highway today. Mushtaq Ahmad Kantroo, son of Mohammad Amin Kantroo of Tral, was injured critically after he came out of his car while travelling from Srinagar to Kargil. He was rushed to Primary Health Centre Sonamarg where from he was rushed to B&J hospital Srinagar for treatment.
