JAMMU, May 1: Federation of Industries Jammu (FOIJ) has expressed grave concern over hike in power tariff for Industrial Sector and feared that due to steep hike in Power Tariff the Industrial Units may opt for the closing of their units, resulting into further increase in unemployment. The federation appealed the Chief Minister to immediately rollback the hike in Power Tariff.
The meeting of the Federation in this regard was held here under the chairmanship of Balbir Gupta, Chairman, FOIJ, and attended by presidents and office bearers of all industrial associations of BBIA Bari Brahmana, AOI Gangyal, SSIA Birpur, Digiana, Samba and Kathua.
The members while showing anguish over hike in Power Tariff said that the Industrial Sector of our State is passing through a crucial period due to locational disadvantages and the hike in power tariff has further increased the problems of Industrialists.
The meeting said, “The Industrial Sector is being penalized by the JKSERC by increasing the Power Tariff despite the fact that Industry consumes 30% power and contributes 70% of total revenue generation of PDD. Industry is 100% metered and generates 100% revenue where the T&D losses are much than the national average”.
The meeting observed that the Industrial Sector has been penalized on account of failure of PDD Department due to non-recovery of the whooping amount of Rs 2000 crore from various Government Departments and failed to control the power theft and the installation of meter to approximately 12 lakh consumers.
The Federation appealed the Chief Minister to intervene into the matter and issue necessary orders for the withdrawl of recent Power Tariff Hike especially for Industrial Sector.
