SRINAGAR, June 23: Minister for Rural Development, Law, Justice, Panchayati Raj and Parliamentary Affairs, Ali Mohammad Sagar today said “we should follow the teachings of the Islam as the religion preaches compassion, tolerance and peaceful co-existence.”
The Minister was addressing students during the Seerat Conferences organized by Government Higher Secondary School, Nowhatta and Milad School, Shaheed Ganj Srinagar.
While highlighting the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), the Minister said “we should follow the same as they teach mutual brotherhood, peace and respect towards the people of other faiths”, adding “teachings of Islam have become more relevant as the world is faced with several challenges which can be countered by following them in right perspective.”
The Minister stressed the need for imparting of moral and religious teachings in educational institutions, which will go a long way in making the students good citizens who can contribute effectively in nation building.
The Minister also distributed cash awards of Rs. 12, 000 provided by the Common Cause Trust among the students who participated in the Seerat Conference and announced that an auditorium would be constructed in Nowhatta Higher Secondary which would facilitate holding of curricular and extra-curricular activities.
Several prominent religious scholars which included Qurshid Ahmed Qanungoo, Prof. Tayub Kamli, Abdul Hassan Farooqi, G. H. Maqdoomi, Chief Education Officer, Srinagar, Principal Government Higher Secondary School, Nowhatta, also highlighted the relevance of the teachings of Islam and the revolutionary role of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Various prominent citizens of the area and the teachers also attended the Seerat conference.
