Sir,
It is true that there is hardly any place where the traffic lights are not jumped by the vehicle operators. Before action is taken by traffic police, here are certain remedial measures which are required to be taken at the earliest to avoid any major accident in the future.
* For fifteen days, there is need for trafic police personnel to stand near yellow line (Zebra crossing)- not to allow the vehicle operator to cross the line when the red light is on.
* It is also observed that the matadoor/mini buses stops four to five feet ahead when the green light is on to pick up the pessengers thus creating confusion. This is required to be stopped. It is especially seen Janipur Chowk and Chowk before reaching High Court.
* Vehicles moving towards High Court often come in the centre of the road thus creating confusion and trafic jam. There is need of central crossing point (Chowk) at the place where there are signals installed.
* There is need for the adjustment of timing with regard to red and green signals.
* Lot of improvement and control is required on Muthi Chowk to Janipur and Amphalla where there are more violators companion to Gandhinagar area.
* It is good to see traffic police personel relaxing at Vikram Chowk which has shown lot of improvement because of traffic light signals.
Above all self discipline is to be maintained by the people to make this attempt successful.

Indo-Pak relations
Sir,
This has reference to the news item ‘Soz asks Pak to dismantle terror infrastructure’ DE Sept 11.
The former Union Minister and president of Jammu and Kashmir Congress Committee (PCC-I) has rightly asked the Pakistani leadership to show political will to dismantle the terror infrastructure in the country for lasting peace in the region.
The pre-requisites for peace to prevail in the sub-continent is dismantling of terror infrastructure created during last 30 years in Pakistan. No confidence building measures as are initiated in restoring Indo-Pak amity may work, unless Pakistan changes its policy towards India. The presence of Jihadi elements in Pakistan is a great threat to peace whether in India or Pakistan itself.
The aim of these militants groups is bring the two neighbourly states in the battle-field. Kargil misadventure is one of the instances.
Besides, the Government of Pakistan should bring to justice the elements responsible for Mumbai attacks. This will certainly help in restoration of good relations between the two countries.

Increase medical allowance
Sir,
The Sixth Central Pay Commission has recommended that the fixed medical allowance to the Government pensioners should be enhanced. But the State Government has not considered the genuine demand till date and they are still paying Rs 300/- per month as fixed medical allowance. This is not appreciable. Some State Governments are paying the increased allowance varying between Rs 500/- and Rs 1000/- to their pensioners. Today doctors charge Rs 200/- as consultation fee for a single visit. Add to it the cost of medicines and conveyance charges. Keeping in mind the health problems of pensioners as well as their long service to the nation and steep hike in the cost of living and medicines and medical treatment, the Government must increase their fixed medical allowance to Rs 1000/- per month at the earliest.
