The spokesperson of the department said that multiple sites throughout the town were raided by a team of food safety officers on August 30 after receiving information about the availability of fake Verka Desi Ghee in the markets of District Anantnag.
“The team during raids seized around 1000 kgs of Ghee worth Rs 6 lakhs (approximately) packed in suspicious secondary and tertiary packages,” he said.
He continued that the preliminary investigations into the matter reveal that the Ghee is manufactured as a counterfeit product by some unknown manufacturers and one leading businessman from Srinagar has imported the same to Kashmir and is being sold at lower rates. “A full-fledged investigation into the matter has been initiated to book the culprits under relevant provisions of law,” he said.
