Food Safety officials raid various shops in Kathua

KATHUA, Oct 19: Continuing its drive against the sub standard material being sold in Kathua and other markets of the district, adulterated sweets and shop keepers selling the eatable products below the standard mark, a special team of Food Safety Department under the direction of Deputy Commissioner, Kathua, Rohit Khajuria raided various shops and business establishments on Railway road near here, today.
A special team of Food Safety led by Pankaj Soni, Officer in Food Safety Department, Kathua raided various shops and eatable establishment on Railway road, shopping complex and canteen of Chenab Textile Mills Kathua . The team closely checked the eatable item and it’s standard mark and quality, hygienic conditions and drinking water conditions. Number of shopkeepers were booked  under Food Safety Act and sample of sub standard items are also taken for lab  test  The team has also found superious and sub standard eating materials in the canteen of CTM Kathua. The items in unhygienic conditions were destroyed on the spot by the raiding team and it also took samples of them and sent to laboratory for test reports.
Some labourer on the spot also complained about supply of sub standard eatable item on higher prices. The Department took cognizance of public complaints and booked number of shopkeepers during the drive.
