Food Safety team challans 10 for violation of norms

JAMMU, Jan 11: To make sure that safe and nutritious food is served to the customers, a special inspection drive was conducted by Food Safety wing of Food and Drug Administration with in municipal limits of Jammu keeping in view of upcoming Lohri festival.
During the drive, a team of Food Safety officers headed by Dr Parvesh Kumar, Assistant Commissioner, Food Safety, Municipal Limits Jammu, randomly checked various food establishments at Canal Road, Parade, Bakshi Nagar, Janipur and Sarwal areas.
The team focused specially on shopkeepers selling ghachak, reohris, khajoors and sweets and lifted samples of these food items from many establishments for their quality analysis. More than 14 samples were lifted and sent to laboratory for analysis while owners of 10 establishments were challaned for unhygienic and insanitary conditions.
Moreover, the team emphasized the sellers not to sell the products in open and keep all the food articles covered. The team also made the shopkeepers aware about food safety norms and asked them to follow the same strictly.
The inspection team was comprised of Food Safety officers Ajay Khajuria, Parvaiz Ahmed and Saba Rasool.
