Food Safety team organizes awareness camp for meat, poultry shops owners

JAMMU, Nov 20: Food Safety Wing of Food & Drugs Administration (FDA), Jammu today conducted a one-day awareness programme for owners/workers of meat and poultry shops located outside Railway Station, Jammu.
The awareness programme was organized by Dr Parvesh Kumar, Assistant Commissioner, Food Safety Jammu along with Food Safety Officers wherein a large number of participants were present.
Addressing the participants, Dr Parvesh emphasized on maintaining proper hygiene and sanitation. He told them that not only floors of the processing room but also walls should be tiled at least upto a height of six feet. He asked them install proper exhaust system and fit automatic door closers in their shops.
They were also asked to use knives made of stainless steel, black glasses at the main counter of the shop and install Geysers in their establishments for hot water facility. The participants were also informed to maintain their personal hygiene as well as dress code, medical fitness certificates, proper drainage system and proper disposal of the waste products.
“In order to minimize the cross contamination, food borne diseases and diseases like dengue, there should be no stagnant water in the processing area and in drainage system,” said Food Safety Officers to the participants and further instructed them to follow the norms under Food Safety & Standards Act 2006 for Poultry & Meat Shops otherwise strict action shall be initiated.
The team was comprised of Food Safety Officers Ajay Khajuria, Daleep Singh, Hans Raj Andotra and Pervaiz Ahmed.
