URI, Oct 27: Former Union Minister and Pradesh Congress Committee president Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz today said that Food Security Bill was a land mark legislation and it will ensure that nobody sleeps without food in the country.
Addressing a largely attended public meeting organized by Minister for Medical Education and Sports Taj Mohi-ud-Din at Boniyar in Uri today, Prof Soz termed the enactment of Food Security Bill as a landmark legislation and claimed that it would ensure that nobody sleeps without two square meals. He extended gratitude to UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, for exhibiting flexibility while taking decisions in respect of Jammu and Kashmir and liberal funding to the State.
Prof Soz complimented the people of Uri for the massive development that has taken place over the last decades in the area. He said that he has always held in his high esteem the caliber exhibited by Taj Mohi-ud-Din. Asking Panchs and Sarpanchs to take active part in the development process of the State, Prof Soz said the Panchayati Raj in J&K is being further strengthened and the Panchayats would be adequately empowered.
Speaking on the occasion Taj Mohi-ud-Din asked the people to remain vigilant from opportunist elements, who always hoodwink them with hollow slogans. He asked them to judge on the basis of performance and commitment to public good and decide accordingly. Mr Taj pointed out that the road length in Uri which stood 75 kms in 2002 has crossed today to 615 kms and the number of schools which was 79 ten years ago stands at 279. The water supply and the power distribution in the area has almost crossed 90% and soon every house would have electricity and water connection, he added.
On the occasion Mr Taj also distributed regularization orders among 50 Education Volunteers of Uri and Boniyar Zones. Former legislator Haji Rasheed, senior leaders Mir Mushtaq, Abdul GHani Khan, Mohd Sultan and S S Channi were also present.
