JAMMU, May 12: Former Minister and senior Congress leader Raman Bhalla while continuing to extend his helping hand by distributing ration and other essential supplies among needy persons in various parts of the Gandhi Nagar Constituency amid lockdown due COVID-19 pandemic today distributed ration items  at Jeevan Nagar, Ajit Nagar,  Maha Kali Nagar, Satwari Narwal Pian, and Lower Gadi Garh.
Prominent among those who accompanied Bhalla included Block President Amrit Bali, Pawan Bhagat, Babbi Sharma, Preetpaul Singh, Kewal Krishan, Sandeep Dogra Sonu, Madam Amana, Babble Sharma, Pankaj Sharma, Inder Sharma, Parshotam Lal, Pawan Kumar, Hardeep Singh, Ramneek Singh, Davinder singh, Rishi Dutt, Sanjay Gupta, Pinku Mehra, Aman Bawa, Jatin Vashisht, Sanjay Gupta and Murli.
He said that food security concerns were growing as Coronavirus crisis continues in the country and urged the administration to take measures for mitigating the sufferings of people, on war footing.
Bhalla said that the people of the J&K should not suffer due to virus and asked Government to immediately start delivering ration to people in order to avoid mass gatherings at ration depots in wake of COVID-19 pandemic.
He urged for working out a plan for door-to-door distribution of ration and other essential commodities to consumers to avoid long queues and large gatherings at ration depots.
“The Government should come up with concrete relief measures including financial assistance and free ration for a larger section of society, whose livelihood has got affected due to inter-district transport ban and other restrictions imposed by authorities in view of Coronavirus outbreak,” Bhalla maintained.
He said while necessary measures including ban on all types of public transport and normal movement across J&K was imperative to tackle spread of deadly virus, the Government should also take concrete steps to mitigate sufferings of the people affected by these restrictions, “Unfortunately, the Jammu and Kashmir Government seems to be a mute spectator to miseries and sufferings of people. Like other Governments, J&K Government should also come up with measures to help the people, who are unable to sustain their families in these hard times,” Bhalla demanded.
He demanded mobilizing well-coordinated effort by all the District Administrations, J&K Police, various NGOs, Civil Societies, Private Sectors and the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs in maintaining essential supplies.
