JAMMU, Jan 18: The protest dharna launched by food and allied workers engaged by CAPD Department at various food stores at Jammu, Srinagar and others locations entered the 8th consecutive day today.
These workers handling  food-grain bags are protesting against the CAPD authorities for not revising their wages for the last several years. The workers under the banner of Food  & Allied Workers’ Union (J&K) are protesting at the main Central Store in Jammu in large number. In Srinagar also similar protest is going on.   The protest has also been extended to Muffasil food stores. The Union has warned to intensify their agitation. The workers are now fed up with the adamant attitude of the Director and other officers.
They shouted slogans against the Commissioner Secretary CAPD, Director  and State Government and pointed out that price index has shown sharp hike while their wages were not revised by the Director CAPD.  The workers should be granted minimum guarantee wages at par with FCI workers.  The loading unloading wages per bag should be reviewed/ enhanced after every six months, they demanded.
The agitating workers further demanded release of wages before 10th of every month,  implementation of pension scheme etc.  They were also demanding engagement of 17 workers of Muffasil depots and replacement of 12 workers.
President of the Union Bishan Dass expressed serious concern over the non-serious approach of the senior officers of the department  for ignoring genuine issues of the workers. He said that loading/ unloading charges have not been increased since 2012. This has also affected their PF, ESI, LIC components.
Meanwhile, the Union  has decided to totally struck work from today onwards in Kashmir as well as in Jammu stores and also launch protest dharna outside the office Director CAPD Jammu as well as in Srinagar.
