Forced conversion of minorities in Kishtwar

JAMMU, Apr 6: Congress Legislator from Leh Nurboo Gialchan today alleged forced conversion of members of his community by some majority community members in Paddar area of district Kishtwar.
The issue was raised by Mr Nurboo in the Upper House of the Legislature in presence of Minister for Finance and Ladakh Affairs Abdul Rahim Rather during Calling Attention Notice here today. The member alleged that his Calling Attention Notice on the subject was misplaced by playing mischief by some staff member today. However, another notice was placed in the business regarding appointment of staff in LAHDC for which he had not pressed. He termed it as deliberate attempt and demanded that ‘Chair’ should take cognizance of the matter.
Mr Nurboo while making sensational disclosures in the House alleged that nearly 3000 Buddhist families were residing in hilly areas of Padder in district Kishtwar. In last two years, five girls/ women of the community were abducted by the majority community members of the area and forced for conversion. He alleged that the other members who are in minority are also being forced for conversion.
Mr Narboo pointed out that even the police did not register an FIR when the aggrieved family members approached them. He said Sheela, wife of Sonam Narboo was kidnapped in October last year. She had two minor children. Sonam went to lodge FIR but the police denied to accept the same. The poor labourer has been left helpless by the law enforcing agency. Despite court directives, the arrogant SHO refused to register FIR. He appealed the Government and also sought directions from the chairman in this regard. MoS Home, Sajjad Kichloo however, assured to take cognizance of the matter.
