LEH, Aug 7: District Administration today successfully rescued a team of 23 students including two teachers and a tour leader and 8 locals accompanying them from Nagding, a trek route between Sku-Markha valley.
This group of girl students from the Holt School, Workingham Berkshire, England had come to Leh for social work and adventure tour. During their trekking in Markha Valley they got stuck up at Nagding because of sudden rise in the Markha River due to heavy rainfall on August 3.
On getting a distress call from the group on August 4, District Magistrate, Leh Saugat Biswas instructed SP Leh to send State Disaster Relief Force immediately for their rescue. The police trekking team, however, informed that the rescue was not possible without chopper because the water current was too strong and it was not safe to get the young girls through pully.
Acting promptly, District Magistrate requisitioned air force chopper to rescue the stranded foreigners and within a very short time the helicopter reached there and safely rescued the team back to Leh.
