State Forensic Science Laboratory job is to provide scientific evidence in cases of crime that would help conduct investigation in any criminal case pending with the court of law. In contemporary times, forensic science has attained much significance in view of the clever change of tactics by the criminals to extract money from individuals and institutions. Large number of cases pending before the State Forensic Science Laboratory for investigation. But at the same time, the laboratory is markedly deficient in the number of faculties proficient in different branches of the science. This causes much delay in submitting reports on the cases sent to the FSL for examination. If we believe in the axiom that justice delayed is justice denied, then we need to keep pace with the development and expansion of the forensic science laboratory. Our FSL is not equipped with most modern gadgets required to make a report on a criminal or non criminal case. The Government has, reportedly, called from the Directorate of Forensic Science to submit a detailed report on the requirements pertaining to the expansion of existing laboratory both in terms of equipment and in terms of faculty. The Director of FSL had written to the Government about five months ago that the laboratory was handicapped for want of adequate number of staff and equipment. Now that the Finance Department has desired an appraisal of the requirements for expansion, it will examine whether this expansion can be provided financial support. In view of fast growing work of the FSL we implore the Government to give a very considered opinion in regard to the expansion of the FSL. We need a well equipped laboratory with efficient staff to conduct the increasing work at the laboratory to make justice easier and quicker.
