SRINAGAR, Jan 11: The District Forest Officer of JV Division Baramulla, Parvaiz Ahmad Wani, issued an advisory today, urging residents to take immediate precautions to mitigate the potential devastation caused by escalating forest fires in the region.
While talking to ‘Daily Excelsior’, Wani emphasised the severity of the situation, stating, “A dry spell is going on throughout the valley, and due to the presence of dry grass or shrubs, there are significant chances of Forest fires in both forest and non-forest areas. We appeal to the people not to throw cigarette butts in forest areas and refrain from carrying firepots into the forests. Organising campfires in forest areas without the approval of the Forest department is strongly discouraged,” he said.
He further added, “Agricultural fields near forests should avoid burning stray grass or firewood in proximity, and if people observe any smoke or fire, they should immediately inform the Forest officials.”
The advisory comes as a response to the increasing threat of forest fires, urging the community to exercise caution and collaborate with the Forest department to prevent potential disasters.
