JAMMU, Dec 28: Indian National trade Union Congress (INTUC) has flayed the Forest Department authorities for not supplying fire wood for cremation purposes.
In a press conference here today State Secretary INTUC, Sumit Magotra said, for the last six months the department has not supplied fire wood to the Forest Depot at Devika Ghat for cremation purposes.
He informed that under these circumstances the needy people are forced to purchase the wood at exorbitant rate of Rs. 600 per quintal from private players while it is Rs 335 per quintal at Government Depots.
Magotra further informed that he had also brought the issue into the notice of higher authorities of Forest Department for necessary action but nothing fruitful emerged.
He asked the authorities at Forest Department to make the supply of wood available otherwise the affected people will be forced to come on roads.
Senior Congress leaders Jiveen Sharma and Vikas Khajuria were also present on the occasion.
