Forest encroachment

Sir,
Refer news item ‘Lal Singh directs for removal of encroachments on forest land’ DE May 21.
Forests are our life sustaining resources. In our Jammu and Kashmir, forest play an important role in boosting our economy. The tourism sector is quite dependent on them. The tourists throughout the world come here to enjoy lush green meadows and pine trees dotting the State’s landscape. They also provide shelter to a wide range of flora and fauna. In case we lose this green gold due to encroachments or any other reasons, it will be a great loss to us difficult to compensate. It is our duty to protect them at any cost. However, it may be said here with great dismay that successive State Governments have not taken much care of them. They have let these forests encroached for their petty political interests. Today many illegal colonies have come up on this land. Besides, it has given birth to land mafia who sell this land at exorbitant prices to innocent people.
The Forest Minister has done well by directing the forest officials to prevent recurring forest fires which are a great source of forest devastation.
Yours etc….
