Forest guards thrashed, detained

MENDHAR, Jan 14:  Two Forest guards were allegedly beaten up and detained through out the night by some people when they opposed  construction of  a PMGSY road, through forest area without any pre-clearance by the department.
Reports said four Forest guards Zaheer Ahmed, Munnawar, Irfan and Mushtaq Ahmed along with RO Javed Iqbal and some policemen were deputed to stop the work and also seize JCB working on Nabna to Chhunga road in Forest compartment No 176 of Mendhar Range today. After stopping work police and RO returned and deployed 4 guards there to keep watch. Later, some people assisted by contractor beaten up Guards and locked two Zaheer and Munnawar in a room. They kept them in detention throughout the night. They managed to flee at around 6 am and reported the matter to RO. The matter was then taken up with the DFO Poonch who directed RO to lodge an FIR. The police was investigating.
